Just Humans Over The Wire
Once again I’m entertaining the idea of maintaining a personal website.
I had a blog in the 2000’s, inspired by people like Joel Spolsky and Jeff Atwood. It was terrible, and not in the humble-brag way. I was mostly regurgitating what I’d read elsewhere, adding nothing. Eventually, I deleted the blog and moved over to the social media platforms (just like everyone else did). There, I slowly transitioned to read-only mode. Then I started leaving most social networks to protect what’s left of my mental health. Today I barely exist online.
Now the internet is being flooded with AI-generated content. Maybe it’s the dead internet theory chills, but I’m starting to think that I now need my personal website back. Not because I’m special, but just because I’m human. I certainly don’t have the time or talent necessary, but as human, I can try. Because in the beginning, there was the internet - just humans over the wire.
PS: I had this account since Paul Ford started tilde.club, but never used it. It felt really human to use it instead of a blogger platform or self-hosted site.
